Animated: The Girl Who Fell To Earth
IN PARTNERSHIP w/ OCADU
Future Now has partnered with OCAD University and their very talented illustration students to create a live-animated short film of The Girl Who Fell To Earth by Miranda Newman, who is the first writer to use the Future Now sci-fi framework to craft a story.
Each student recorded their process illustrating scenes from the first chapter of the Girl Who Fell to Earth. These “live drawings” were edited into short videos accompanied by Miranda reading her story. The goal for this project was to provide a platform for a diverse range of artistic styles that can be stitched together into a single cohesive work of art.
The Girl Who Fell To Earth is written from the perspective of the protagonist, Mirela, as she goes on her journey to Earth in the year 2084. The goal was to give the viewer the feeling that they are watching the narrative unfold in real-time as it manifests for Mirela in her mind.
It’s inspiring to watch how an artist creates their work, which is part of the reason we think live-drawing videos are so popular on social media. The Future Now animation team has developed a motion graphics template that could incorporate the students' live drawing alongside other Future Now web-series assets to create a cohesive, dreamlike frame.
Once all the videos are complete we'll be publishing the entire first chapter as a single video on our Future Now YouTube channel in partnership with our distributor Underknown.
We're very excited by this collaboration between OCADU, Miranda Newman, and one of Canada's most successful content creators/publishers (Underknown).
THE PROJECT
About The Girl Who Fell To Earth
A young woman travels to Earth to save her people. The Venusian Colony will soon grow too big to support itself, and a strategic marriage between Princess Mirela and Wang Hao, the son of Off-Earth mining titans would bring much-needed financial support. But there is more to this marriage than she’s been told, and powerful groups that want to use her for their own purposes.
You can read this story now for free on Wattpad. Learn more on the Girl Who Fell To Earth web page
